東京都出身。大学卒業後の1973年にロンドンに渡10年間を過ごす。
折からのパンクロックやニューウエーブのムーブメントに遭遇し、
デビュー前のボーイ・ジョージとルームシェアをするなど、
ロンドンの最もエキサイティングだった時代を体験する。
そうした中で撮影された、生きたロンドンの写真
（ジョー・ストラマー：The CLASH、ジョニー・ロットン：SEX PISTOLS、
ボーイ・ジョージ：Culture Club、ブライアン・メイ：Queen、U2、Duran Duran、ダイアナ妃など）が国内外で高く評価された。
帰国後も福山雅治、坂本龍一、布袋寅泰、山崎まさよしなど、国内のアーティストとコラボレーションをしながら、
常に市井の人々にカメラを向け続け、「PEACE」「HOPE」などの人気シリーズをはじめモノクロームの、
スナップ・ポートレイトというスタイルで残している。
その優しく清楚な作風を好むファンは数多く、「人間の希望を撮りたい」
「人が人を好きになる様な写真を撮りたい」というテーマは、
中学時代から現在に至るまでぶれることなく現在も進行中である。
写真発表の傍ら、エッセイ執筆、ラジオ、テレビのパーソナリティー、
さらには布袋寅泰のプロジェクト「ギタリズム」では
作詞家として参加。 2022年には、コロナ禍という世界的なパンデミックの中、マスクを着けている人々の意思のある美しい眼差しを捉えた写真集「TOKYO EYES」を発売、東京から世界に向けて熱いメッセージを贈り、
2023年には、日本を代表するギタリスト・布袋寅泰のオフステージシーンを37年間に渡り撮影した写真集
「Glorious Days」を発売し同写真展を開催するなど、今もなお、写真界の第一線で活躍し続けている。

He has always turned his camera on ordinary people, and his popular series such as “PEACE” and “HOPE” as well as his monochrome snapshots and portraits have been highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad,
